Average Joes and White Out Take Top Honors

Girard High School's "Average Joe's" and Poland Middle School's "White Out" took top honors in the 2011 FCA Dodgeball Tournament held on Friday, April 1st at Youngstown Christian School.  Twenty teams took part in the event this year and over 150 spectators showed up to cheer their teams on.

Special thanks to this year's referrees:  Nick Glatzer, Reid Lamport, John DiRenzo, Kurt Hess and Torian Pace, and our loyal volunteers Ken & Judy Schenker.  FCA also wants to thank Mike Pecchia, Dolph Carrol, Karen Pecchia and all the wonderful people at Youngstown Christian who helped make this event possible.

Girard's Average Joe's Middle School Champions

FCA held its 4th annual Dodgeball tournament on Friday, March 26th at Youngstown Christian School.  Twelve high school and 6 middle school teams competed in a double-elimination event.  After all the dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging, two teams emerged victorious—the West Branch Warriors (HS)  and the Average Joe’s (MS) from Girard.  A special award for the most Christ-like competitor went to the FROSH.

Thanks to our volunteers:  Ken Schenker, Reid Lamport, Jessie Lamport, Katie and Nick Glatzer for helping to make the night a success.

2nd Annual FCA Dodgeball Tournament
Held April 11, 2008

The 2nd Annual FCA Dodgeball Tournament was held Friday, April 11th at Youngstown Christian School.  Ten teams competed in a double elimination style tournament.  The competition was incredible as the winning team, the Bomb Squad, fought its way out of the loser's bracket to beat the undefeated team, Los Matadores, twice to win the tournament.  The winning team was made up of an "overflow" of kids from several teams that showed up and wanted to play.  These athletes broke down school barriers and came together to compete for Christ.  They were awarded t-shirts that were designed and donated by Ken & Judy Schenker who own Trolio's Screen Printing & Embroidery in Boardman.

Congratulations Bomb Squad!

FCA would like to thank Nick Glatzer and Paul Dunleavy for volunteering to do the most difficult job of the evening...being the referees.  They did a great job reminding the kids how to keep Christ in competition.

We would also like to thank the Ken Schenker family for volunteering for the evening as well as Karen Pecchia.  Also a special thank you to Mike Pecchia for allowing FCA to use Youngstown Christian to hold this event.

2007 Dodge Ball Tournament

The Steel Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes held its first (and not to be last) Dodgeball Tournament on Friday, March 30, 2007.   Youngstown Christian School's President, Mike Pecchia, offered the use of their amazing facility to hold the tournament.  Not only did they let us use both their gymnasiums they also opened their cafe which came with their own volunteers (thank you Mrs. Pecchia.)

As soon as all the teams arrived we prayed and went over the rules.  Paul (Dunner) Dunleavy spoke to the kids about competing, winning and losing God's way.  The teams were ready to play.  Best of 3 matches began with a winner and loser's bracket.  The night came down to two teams--Fusion and Greenford playing for 1st place.  Fusion took the top prize!

It was a great night of fun.  Thanks Hubbard, Columbiana, Canfield, Greenford, Fusion and Youngstown Christian  for taking part in this much anticipated event.  We are already planning for the 2nd Annual FCA Dodgeball Tournament.
