Columbiana HS FCA Huddle
Coffee Bar

Columbiana FCA "Coffee Bar"

The Columbiana High School FCA huddle opened their “Coffee Bar” in the school Commons. The group came up with the idea at one of their Leadership brainstorming sessions.  Coffee was donated by Shellabella’s, a local coffee shop in Columbiana.  FCA members who helped with the coffee bar are Beth Davis, Ginny Ball, Elyson Barto, Lindsay Willett, Melanie Barzda, Katie Sponseller, Katie Woods and Deidra Hart.

FCA Advisor Bob Kimpel has encouraged his group to find ways to serve their school as well as the community.  The group obtained lists of all the athletes in fall sports, the marching band members, and the fall cheerleaders and made signs for their lockers. Each sign had a message that said FCA would be praying for their season with the verse “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” and a piece of Big Red gum with the message “Go Big Red!” for our school team colors. They also collected food and money for the Hurricane Katrina victims. Columbiana is certainly blessed to have this huddle in their community.

See You at the Pole Went Great!
Fri., Sep. 23. 2005 12:41pm EDT

It was 2:30pm on Wednesday afternoon in Ohio and the buses were running outside the school ready to scoop up the kids and get them home. Some of them were held up a few minutes, because a couple dozen kids agreed to meet in front of the school and pray for the school.

Karl Messner (Apologetix lead guitarist) gathered with them, sat down in the grass and like a bunch of hippies, sang some worship songs, and prayed for the school. Started in 1991, "See You at the (flag)Pole" groups have occurred at many schools around the world. Columbiana High School's Fellowship of Christian Athletes invited Karl to come and share. Everyone had a great time.

What We Do at FCA Meetings

At our weekly meetings, we either have a lesson or play a game that is meant to attract new members; sometimes we do a mixture of both.  These games or lessons are usually student-planned and advisor-guided.

We talk about things that are going on in the lives of others in the group, and we often take prayer requests.  Our FCA leader, Bob, also introduced the idea of the P.I.T. Crew to us.

At leadership meetings, we plan activities, brainstorm where we see FCA going, and set goals for the club.  These were mainly at the beginning of the year, but they helped so much that we plan to continue them throughout the year.  Once or twice this year, leadership meetings have been in the form of service projects, such as when we made locker signs and collected food and money for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Our FCA hopes to grow more this year on many levels.  I believe we have already grown since last year, and if we stay focused, I have faith God will honor that this school year!
